I've been listening to Relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet and Red Garland's piano playing is blowing me away, especially on "If I Were A Bell" and "I Could Write A Book". His light, rippling touch and I'll follow him anywhere.
I don't get the same piano experience with Cookin', Round About Midnight (except "Bye, Bye Blackbird"), or Milestones. I haven't heard his other albums with Miles or with anyone else.
Can anyone recommend other albums with Red Garland that have the similar piano feel as "Relaxin'? What about other piano players with a similar sound? Thanks.

Fri, March 24, 2006 - 9:53 AMYes you're right T-Bird. Here's some info on Relaxin' which included material from both sessions which I imagine the others would also.
This is the second of the 4 albums issued by Prestige at the end of Davis's association with the label. Four of the six titles come from the 10/26/56 date and two from 5/11/56, same personnel: Miles (tp) Coltrane (ts) Red Garland (p) Paul Chambers (b) Philly Joe Jones (d). -

Fri, March 24, 2006 - 1:21 PMI have not listened to Steamin' or Workin' but I'd be curious to know which tracks on which albums came from which dates. To my ears, Cookin' and Relaxin' have very different feels. I wonder if they were recorded on different dates.
