Hey all, I just joined (love all sorts of music) and am in need of some good music for dancing to. I belly dance and enjoy mixing up what I dance to. I'm not a professional, but will be dancing in a Nursing Home and would like to throw in some music that might be familiar to some of the residents. I have a Duke Ellington tune (mooch) along with my other more "traditional" (notice quotes) belly dance music. I personally love Bessie Smith and Ella Fitzgerald.
Ok, what I'm looking for is slower with a stronger (easy to "feel") beat. I like dancing to all sorts of music, but I like to be able to have a good feel for the rhythm. If you have any names or links that would be great. Thanks.

Mon, March 31, 2008 - 8:24 PMColleen's exquisite taste aside, I recommend New Orleans second-line. For a great steady band with a bawdy sense of humor, you also can't beat Cab Callaway. My hero (who I was blessed to meet years before his demise) Slim Galliard and any Slim and Slam would fit the bill if you think your crowd might go in for bebop/metropolitan sounds.
