Hello, Fellow singers and students of song!
I am very happy to say I'll be teaching 4 classes at
Blue Bear School Of Music for the Fall Quarter
starting 9/26/06.
Classes on Tuesdays are: Musicianship Skills for
Singers at 7-8:00pm and Intermediate Voice from
8-9:30pm and on Thursdays, Singing For People who
Can't Sing from 7-8:00pm and Beginning Jazz Vocals
from 8:30-10:00pm.
For singing technique I will be teaching the Bel Canto
method which is based on Classical singing but adapted
for Pop and Jazz vocals. This method is tried and true
and has produced wonderful singers for over 500 years!
For the musicianship and jazz vocals classes, I'll be
drawing on over 30 years of performance and extensive
education (including that most venerable of
institutions, the "School of Hard Knocks").
Please join me as we explore the many facets of vocal
expression that can be discovered within the
foundation of a well grounded vocal techinique!
Vicki Burns has a BA in Classical Performance from the
University of New Hampshire and an MA in Improvised
Music Studies From San Jose State University. At UNH,
she studied for 4 years with Dr. Henry Wing an Oberlin
Conservatory Graduate and professional Counter Tenor,
who specialized in Renaissance Madrigals.
She has also studied with Roy Rogasin founder of the
Portsmouth Academy of Performing Arts, Portsmouth, NH.
And with Mark Murphy, Allan Harris and Sheila Jordan
in New York, NY., Roberta Davis at "Jazz in July",
Amherst MA., Kitty Margolis and Rebbeca Parris in San
Francisco and Barry Harris at Dartmouth College,
Hanover, NH.
Currently, Vicki performs at many venues throughout
the Bay Area including The Plush Room, Enrico's, the
Flytap, the Cosmopolitan, Anna's Jazz Island, Bistro
Yoffi, The Larkspur Cafe Theatre, Soluna and Downtown.
Private lessons with Vicki are also available at Blue
Bear.
