I think he's more R&B/Soul than straight jazz, but I think it's appropriate to remember his life and career here. He branched out into jazz standards and adapted many songs of his day.

Additionally, he could scat sing better than many jazz-only singers, his story-telling skills are remarkable, and he had an incredible range for a man with such a deep voice.

    lou's a talented guy and has worked with some amazing people (check out his capitol stuff w/david axelrod.)

      There's an album he did on Capitol with the Les McCann trio that was really good, Leroy Vinegar was on bass.
